The Lord Mayor bowed to community pressure when he announced a roundabout terminus at the West End ferry terminal for the new 24 hour CityGlider bus service, according to local Councillor Helen Abrahams.
Residents from Gray Road, Morry and Ryan Streets have been lobbying for this outcome for more than six months.
“It is a great win for local residents†said Cr Abrahams who has supported the community in their fight not to have buses in their streets twenty four hours a day.
However, the Lord Mayor’s commitment is to install the roundabout ‘definitely inside two years†but hopefully in 9 to18 months time.
“Immediately after the meeting, the residents told me that this was too long’ said Cr Abrahams
“Clearly more lobbying is necessary to have this project brought forward†said Helen Abrahams
“Buses traversing quiet back streets every hour of the day for up to two years is unacceptable†said Cr Abrahams
.
“If the roundabout had been included as part of the necessary infrastructure for the City Glider project in the first place, this delay would not have been necessary†said Helen Abrahams
“The Lord Mayor’s so called “can do†approach in reality needs people power to bring to fruition,†said Helen Abrahams
